INDIAN JEWELS OF 19TH IFFK

19th IFFK screens 22 Indian films which add to the richness of the very grand fest of Kerala. Indian films, all created with a variant approach portray valuable social notes through a set of inspiring stories. Along with Indian Cinema New and Malayalam Cinema Today, many other sections exhibit Indian films that are sure to capture the interests of the viewers.
The Competition Section showcases 4 films which include 2 Malayalam films, Unto the Dusk and Zahir. Unto the Dusk is the debut film of the director Sajin Baabu which captures the story of a man who is forced to choose a future he never thought he would live. Zahir, a film by Sidhartha Siva is based on a society that internalizes violence against women.
 Popular director of the Kannada Film Industry P Sheshadri’s December 1 focuses on the life of a happy family living in the very brim of poverty, in a rural village of Karnataka. Devashish Makhija’s Oriya-Hindi film Oonga is set in a tribal outset. Captures on the basis of reality, the film portrays the hardships the tribal community suffers.
The other sections of IFFK constitute films that pictures variant and splendid stories, all of them deals with real life issues.  The popular Marathi Director Sumitra Bhave’s Vaasthupurush will be screened under the Jury Films section. A classic story that tells the life of a Magsaysay Award winner who returns to his home town to build a hospital.
The World Cinema section will be showing 3 films from India. Court, directed by Chaitanya Tamhane is a noted film that portrays the existence of Caste, Class and Feudalism. Adityavikram Sengupta’s Labour of Love is a must watch film that won the Fedeora Award at the Venice Film Festival. It is the story of two ordinary lives living in the crumbling environs of Calcutta. X is the third Indian film comes under the World Cinema section directed by 11 different directors, each of them handling different parts of a single story. The film portrays the dilemma of a middle aged director who meets a girl who reminds him of his first girl friend and of every woman in his life. This is one film that is promise a huge visual impact to its audience.
