Inaugural Film ‘Dancing Arabs’ Actor Tawfeek Barhom to take part

The noted Israeli director Eran Riklis’s film ‘Dancing Arabs ‘to be screened as the inaugural film in the opening ceremony of 19th International Film Festival of Kerala. The story is based on the novel by the same name written by Sayed Kashua. Another significant highlight the inaugural function will witness is the presence of Tawfeek Barhom, who played the main character ‘Eyad’ in the film. Tawfeek Barhom, a recognized figure has been nominated for the best actor in the Ofir Awards. The film will be screened on 12 December 2014 after the inaugural ceremony of the fest in the Nishagandhi Open Theatre.
The film portrays the story of a bright youth who is in search of a better place for him as he is engulfed in the social and political scenario of Israel in the 1980s and 1990s.The protagonist Eyad, a promising teenager who lives in one of the poverty stricken villages of Arab, gets admitted in a popular Jewish boarding school of Jerusalem. The film depicts the bitter side of being an Arab citizen where Eyad is treated as a ‘black sheep’ among the students and teachers. Eyad who was bought up in a different political culture and environment builds up a rebellious nature within him. Though he knew the society which he lives in would not accept it, he also builds up a strong and peculiar relationship with ‘Novomi’ who plays the character of a positive and pleasant personality who treats her life with a smile. The portrayal of another character Jonathan, who lives his life on a wheel chair, becomes another crucial factor after which they face an unexpected and intense turn over in their life. 
The portrayal of real life characters gives a strong basis and soul to the film. The 105 minutes long film has also been screened as the inaugural film of Jerusalem Film Festival.
