The
internationally acclaimed Italian director Marco Bellocchio will be honored
with the life time achievement award in the 19th International Film Festival of
Kerala. Bellocchio is receiving the Award of life time achievement for the
fourth time.
Bellocchio,
born in 1939 in Bobbio, Italy, joined the film school after completing his
studies in philosophy. He made his first entry to the film industry in 1961
directing the film ‘Abbasso Lo Zio’. His was widely appreciated in 1965 for his
film ‘Fists in the Pocket’ which won the Silver Sail at Locarno International
Festival.
Joining
the Communist Union in 1968, comrade Bellocchio’s films comprised of political
factors including Marxism as the theme. Most of his films released after 1960
focuses on the socio-cultural scenario of Italy.
In
his glorious 75 years, Bellocchio has directed around 42 films and bagged
numerous awards. Devil in the Flesh (1986), Dormant Beauty (2012), Fists in the
Pocket (1965), Good Morning, Night (2003), Sorelle Mia (2006), Vincere(2009),
The Wedding Director (2006) were screened under retrospective section in the
previous International Film Festival of Kerala.
As
a token of respect to the legendry director, Marco Bellocchio’ s film ‘My
Mothers Smile’ will be screened in the 19th International Film Festival of
Kerala. Released in 2002, the film says the story of an atheist, whose mother
get the recognition of sainthood, after which he faces conflicting situations
where he is subjected to adverse conditions in his life. This film has already
bagged a handful of prestigious international awards.
