Indian films have always focused on giving a brilliant viewing
experience to all its audience. Under the category of Indian Cinema Now
section, seven films will be screened in the 19thIFFK. 89, 1000 Rupee Note,
Blemished Light, Gour Hari Dastaan – The Freedom File, Myth of Kleopatra,
Pannaiyarum Padminiyum and The Tale of Nayan Champa are the significant films
that will be screened under the respective section.
Indian films are known for its mark of realism and socio cultural
imprints of the society with a prominent social note. All the films in this
section comprise these dominant factors which will be of great interest
89, a psychological crime thriller by Manoj Michigan, revolves
around 3 characters who are troubled by an unexplained trauma causing one of
the character, leading the story to a psychological warfare. The director, who
has also handled the screenplay and production keeps the story going with
thrills and twists at every turn in the film. Kahani fame, Saswata Chatterjee
has played a prominent role in the film.
Ek Hazarachi Note (1000 Rupee Note), is a film that clearly
reveals the economic setting of the poverty stricken farming community of a
rural village in Maharashtra. The director Shrihari Sathe, who is also the
producer and editor of the film, leads the story by portrayal of Bhudhi, a poor
peasant woman who receives a currency of thousand rupees during a political
rally in her village. The story takes another turn when Bhudhi encounters other
crucial conditions with the currency. This film has already been screened in
several film festivals like IFFI, South Asian International Film Festival etc.
Dagh Ujala (Blemished light), directed and produced by the
debutant Raj Amit Kumar frames a peculiar kidnapping story and the resulting
consequences of brutality and violence which clearly depicts the present status
of the today’s troubled society. The story focuses on examining the life of
people who are discriminated from society for various reasons.
In his film Gour Hari Dastaan – The Freedom File, Ananth Narayan
Mahadevan narrates the story of a freedom fighter who spent his good days
fighting for the independence of the country and the remaining life struggling
for an identity certificate as a freedom fighter. The film through its crucial
turns showcases the present political scenario in our country.
M Adeyapartha’s film Myth of Kleopatra focuses on the life of 3
women who shares the same name Kleopatra. The story depicts a collage of tragic
lives of these three women through different perspectives. This film is a
tribute to the spirit and power of all women.
The debut director and script director Arun Kumar S tells a story
of a peculiar relation between a landlord and his car Padmini in his film
Pannaiyarum Padminiyum. The story takes place in 1980 when, having a car was a
luxury, especially in a rural village of Tamil Nadu.
Nayanchampa Din Ratri (The Tale of Nayan Champa) rolls through a
day of Champa, who travels for 8 hours a day to work in different households in
the city. The scriptwriter and director Sekhar Das portray a day in the life of
Nayanchampa through various perspectives.
